Water Pollution

    Undesirable changed caused in water which make changes in physical, biological and chemical characteristics are called as Water Pollution or Polluted Water.

Causes of Water Pollution

1. Industrial waste
2. Domestic waste
3. Sewage & wastewater
4. Agriculture pesticides & fertilizers
5. Oil spillages (from ships)
6. Marine dumping
7. Acid rain
8. Thermal process (Power Plants)

Type of Water Pollution

1. Ground Water Pollution

It means under-ground water which is polluted because of leakage of industrial chemical waste from surface to underwater sources from long time.

2. Surface Water Pollution 

This means, lake get contaminated from running water from industry, accommodation and other sources.

3. Ocean Water Pollution

Oil spillages from ship at harbor or when at sea.

Sources of Water Pollution

• Point source – These are the sources which pollute water from single point location i.e. Industry.
• Non-point source – These sources are from different point location i.e. agriculture, residential, marine dumping, etc.
