Derrick Crane
Introduction
“Derrick Crane is a lifting device composed at minimum of one guyed mast, which may be articulated over a load by adjusting its guys.”
Derrick Crane is a large crane for moving or lifting heavy weights on ships, framework over oil well or bore-hole to hold the drilling mechanism.
Eg: On a ship, Framework over an oil well hole, to hold the drilling mechanism etc.
Safety Precautions
- The lifting capacity of Derrick crane should be ascertained, and it should not be overloaded.
- The mast guy ropes, wire ropes, blocks and guy clips should be checked thoroughly before erection of Derrick crane.
- Depending upon the type of Derrick crane the mast should be firmly fixed by guy ropes and structure.
- All precautions should be taken so that the base of Derrick crane doesn’t shift or sink.
- The guy of Derrick crane should be anchored tightly with strong structure.
- The Derrick crane should be examined periodically as per site condition and record should be maintained.
