Derrick Crane

Introduction                                                                      

          “Derrick Crane is a lifting device composed at minimum of one guyed mast, which may be articulated over a load by adjusting its guys.”

Derrick Crane is a large crane for moving or lifting heavy weights on ships, framework over oil well or bore-hole to hold the drilling mechanism.

Eg: On a ship, Framework over an oil well hole, to hold the drilling mechanism etc.

Safety Precautions

1. The lifting capacity of Derrick crane should be ascertained, and it should not be overloaded.
2. The mast guy ropes, wire ropes, blocks and guy clips should be checked thoroughly before erection of Derrick crane.
3. Depending upon the type of Derrick crane the mast should be firmly fixed by guy ropes and structure.
4. All precautions should be taken so that the base of Derrick crane doesn’t shift or sink.
5. The guy of Derrick crane should be anchored tightly with strong structure.
6. The Derrick crane should be examined periodically as per site condition and record should be maintained.
